Before You Start
Before you start, make sure you have the followings ready:
- VirtualBox installed
I am using VirtualBox 3.2.0 for Windows hosts (which is the latest released version when this guide is written). - A OSx86 Leopard Distributions
I know there are various OSx86 distributions, including iDeneb, iAtkos etc that you can get from the internet. I know that there are people setup Leopard by using iDeneb v1.3 (which is corresponding to MacOS 10.5.5) and iDeneb v1.5.1 (which is corresponding to MacOS 10.5.7). However, these failed in my environment. For me, using iATKOS_v7 is the solution (note: this is my experience under VB3.1.x).- While MacOSX guest is supported, I believe you can use the retail DVD. Having said that, I think we still need to install some kext files / kernel so as to support the "non-official" hardware.
As a reference (just in case we need to refer to it in the future)
- Black Trinitron's patch for VirtualBox
This patch is a Must-To-Have if we have to setup a Mac OS X VM using VB3.1.X.
More details could be found in www.insanelymac.com. If you don't apply this patch, you may not be able to have your network connected properly.
Overview of the Installation Process
The installation process can be divided into 3 parts:
- Setting up the virtual machine (VM) in VB (i.e. VirtualBox, not VisualBasic)
- Installing Leopard from OSx86 distribution
- Post-Installation Steps
